October is Bullying Prevention Month
Lowell Public Schools is committed to creating safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environments for all students. October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and throughout the month, our schools will be highlighting the importance of kindness, respect, and standing up against bullying.
What students can do to prevent bullying at school:
-
Be an upstander, not a bystander: If you see bullying, report it to a trusted adult and support the student being targeted.
-
Practice kindness: Small acts of respect and kindness can make a big difference in creating a positive school culture.
-
Include others: Invite classmates to join in activities, games, or conversations so no one feels left out.
-
Use your voice responsibly: Think before you speak, post, or text — words matter.
-
Support friends and peers: Let others know they are not alone and that you have their back.
How families can help at home:
-
Talk with your child about what bullying looks like and the importance of speaking up.
-
Encourage kindness and inclusion in everyday interactions.
-
Remind your child to report bullying to a trusted adult at school.
Together, we can ensure that every student feels safe, supported, and respected.

Vision of the Mental Health Office
-
The Lowell Public Schools will develop a comprehensive school mental health system valuing inclusivity and equity where every member, student, family, community partner, and staff collaborate to serve students' and families' best interests and needs. We are dedicated to educating the whole child, having equal access to resources, and being responsive to our diverse community's ever-changing needs.
Mental Health Partners
-
The Mental Health Office is tremendously proud to announce that the Cummings Foundation has awarded a 3-year $225,000 grant to support our work to build a comprehensive school mental health system in our schools. Mass General's Psychiatry Academy will partner with us to support this work.
The Massachusetts General Psychiatry Academy has partnered with the Lowell Public Schools through the Cummings Foundation Grant to support staff and students with clinical consultation, parent education, and the development of a comprehensive school mental health system.
McLean Hospital is piloting a program aimed at reducing absenteeism and has partnered with Lowell Public Schools to provide professional development and clinical consultation to staff working with some of our highest-need families. In the 24- 25 school year, McLean will also provide professional development to therapeutic staff on a range of topics.
The Mental Health Office extends its sincere gratitude to GLHA for their generous financial support of our Crisis Training Support Initiative, which benefits district-wide administrators and social workers. We also thank them for their commitment to staff well-being initiatives that support those working with our highest-needs student populations.
