    MUSIC DEPARTMENT MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Stoklosa Middle School music program is intended to provide students with cohesive and comprehensive learning opportunities in general music, instrumental music, music technology integration and choral music instruction. Students in grades 5-8 develop an understanding of music through musical experience including singing, playing instruments, performing, composing, listening, and responding to music. They develop the ability to read music, notate music, and create works of art that transcribe their thoughts and emotions into forms of musical expression. At the Stoklosa, we strive to create a middle school music community with an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach to learning. Students are able to demonstrate critical-thinking skills by investigating, analyzing and incorporating all facets of academic content-areas, which ultimately support each student’s skills and talents, as well as support their social-emotional learning (SEL).
